LOCATION:

Bridgewater Apartments & Terraces, Kangaroo Point, QLD

PROJECT SUMMARY:

An apartment block in Kangaroo Point experienced a major lighting failure after their grid-connected bollard lights stopped working due to an underground cabling issue. As a temporary fix, low-cost solar lights were mounted on top of the existing bollards while a more permanent solution was sought out.

On behalf of the property, Elliot from Pennard’s Electrical searched for a cost-effective and long-term solution that he could easily retrofit to the existing posts as an alternative to expensive trenching and cabling repairs. He found Star 8 Australia’s Commercial Solar Bollard Pillar Light with 7+ night battery autonomy and a 5-year warranty.

SOLUTION:

After discussing with the team at Star 8 and obtaining the necessary measurements, Elliot easily and neatly retrofitted the solar bollard light heads onto the existing bollard posts. This approach allowed for a seamless retrofit installation, maximising the use of existing infrastructure while delivering an efficient solar upgrade that won’t increase the property’s power bills.

RESULT:

The apartment’s gardens and walkways are now reliably illuminated every night, significantly improving visibility, safety, and the overall outdoor atmosphere for residents and guests.

This project reflects a widespread issue across townhouse complexes, resorts, apartment buildings, and retirement villages—where failing underground cabling can be both expensive and disruptive—and demonstrates how solar retrofitting provides a smarter, more sustainable alternative.
