LOCATION:

Teviot Downs Park, Queensland

PROJECT SUMMARY:

Logan City Council sought to improve nighttime visibility and safety in several public shelters at Teviot Downs Park. While the park is well-used during the day, the shelters lacked adequate lighting after dusk, limiting safe use of the space in the evenings. The council required a reliable lighting solution that could be installed quickly without costly trenching, wiring, or disruption to park infrastructure use.

SOLUTION:

To address the issue, the council installed Star 8’s Bifacial Solar Shelter Lights across several park shelters. These lights utilise bifacial solar panel technology, allowing them to capture sunlight through both sides of the panel for improved charging efficiency.

The system features an integrated solar panel, battery storage, daylight sensor, and motion-sensing capabilities, providing energy-efficient illumination exactly when it is needed. Designed specifically for shelters and covered spaces, the lights are easy to install and require no connection to the costly grid, making them ideal for public parks and outdoor community areas.

RESULT:

The shelters at Teviot Downs Park are now well-lit after dark, significantly improving visibility and safety for park visitors. The solar-powered system provides reliable nighttime lighting while eliminating electricity costs and reducing maintenance requirements.

By choosing a solar solution, Logan City Council was able to deliver a practical, cost-effective lighting upgrade that enhances the usability of the park and supports a safer community environment.
